God decided to wipe out all of creation except for Noah and his family plus two of every animal – all of whom survived by riding out 40 days of torrential rain in the ark. Torah: Genesis 1:1-6:8, Haftarah: Isaiah 42:5-43-10, Brit Hadasha (Second Testament): Mathew 1:1-5:12 Bereshit is the first word in the first book of the Bible. In English that book is usually called by its Greek name Genesis. Either way, it means “In the beginning”. This is the beginning of the new Torah Portion cycle. It begins at the beginning of the Bible, which too many Christians start reading 2/3 of the way through. And it is the beginning of our conversation here.
